Cost is $175 ($50 = shoes, $125 = original artwork). You make a down payment of $50 to buy the shoes (includes shipping) upfront. When I receive the $50, I go buy the shoes and paint on them. When I finish, you pay the final $125 via Paypal, and I ship the shoes back to you.
Some FAQs about my shoes:
1. What type of paint do you use? I use acrylic paints because they dry as plastic and won't run in the rain. Acrylics are pretty durable.
2. Do you spray protective sealant on the shoes after you paint them? Yes - just get a can at any craft store; any regular craft acrylic sealant will do. It'll just help to keep the color bright.
3. Can you wear the shoes in the rain? If you paint them with acrylics, yes, because acrylics dry as plastic and the paint will not run.
4. What is the process you use? I buy the shoes, put masking tape around the rubber soles so they stay clean, sketch the art onto the shoes with pencil, and then paint them with acrylics. When they are all dry, I peel off the tape, spray them with sealant and admire their prettiness!
5. Does the paint job crack in extreme heat/cold? Though I haven't worn them in very extreme weather, I have had my original pair for a year now, and the art is just fine.
6. Can I post a picture of your shoes on my myspace or facebook? Yes, please - go ahead! And post my link with the picture, too, so people know where to go when they want to see more.
7. What type of brushes do you use to paint the shoes? Nice, watercolor brushes for a smooth texture, but most will work just fine.
8. Where can I find plain white slip on Vans? Look in any store that carries Vans, like a Vans outlet, Hot Topic, Journeys, etc. Or you can order them here: [link]
9. Do you sell internationally or out of state? I am currently open to all orders.
10. Where do you get your ideas? Mostly from stuff that I love, such as Nightmare Before Xmas, Alice in Wonderland...etc. My style mostly comes from the influence of artists like John Tenniel (who did the Alice illustrations in the original books), Arthur Rackham, Edward Gorey, and Elizabeth Schuch. Check them out - they are amazing!
11. Can I pick the art that goes on the shoes? Of course! I can paint anything you want (though nothing that I deem inappropriate or vulgar). I never do the same exact art on a pair of shoes twice. But if you like a certain style or subject I've done, I can definitely paint you a variation of that art.
12. Do you paint on other things? Yes, I've done wallets, purses, and other brands of shoes. I have never tried snowboards, surfboards or guitars, but if you are willing to pay more, I'd be willing to figure it out.
